In our installation, the ability to deflect each joint of pipe every 16 feet allowed us to work around existing infrastructure in very tight confines, and to get each pipe to run to the same elevation within only 3 lengths of pipe 1 — even though our starting point and ending point had 5 pipes with 5 different elevations. With steel pipe we would have needed to miter each joint and weld them together. In my opinion, and my crew’s, [Ductile Iron Pipe and Fittings from PNP Supply] is a great product, and we hope to use more in the future!
We have been using TRM Ductile Iron (DI) pipe for more than ten years now, and I could never imagine going back to steel pipe! It doesn’t make any sense from a business standpoint. The extra cost of the ductile iron pipe more than pays for itself when you take into account its non-corrosive properties. When you add in the ease of installation and the lower installation costs, we believe it is a no-brainer. During a new pipe installation in 2015, we witnessed the non-corrosiveness properties of this DI pipe first hand, when it was necessary to relocate some DI pipe that had been installed in 2008 to make room for a new trail. We had installed DI pipe for the main line, while we had used 2” steel pipe and fittings for the hydrant laterals. We removed these pipe systems to be re-used when trail work was completed. Dismantling the DI pipe was very easy and resulted in no damage to the pipe. As shown in the photo — after only seven years of service — the DI pipe looked brand new, while the steel pipe and fittings showed significant corrosion.
In April 2015, I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to tour the TRM factory in Austria. The visit left a lasting impression -— from the cleanliness of the work space, and the attention to detail of every worker, to the superior knowledge technical staff — it was all amazing. During my visit, I presented an idea for a new fitting that would be great for American clients. The following day TRM had already engineered the piece and showed me a design drawing of it, and it is now in production! I could not believe how much TRM cares about the American market and tries to meet our needs. PNP Supply has always been there for us — if there is ever an issue, you can be confident that they will respond immediately with assistance and guidance. Because of PNP’s new North American inventory, it was possible to have fittings delivered within 48 hours of our initial request. It is a pleasure doing business with PNP Supply.
